CyberBullying.

With today’s technology bullying has become easier then ever; the children and youth of this generation do not even need to have personal confrontation. Cyber bullying can be defined as any communication posted or sent by a minor online, by instant messenger, e-mail, website, diary site, online profile, interactive game, handheld device, cell phone or other interactive device that is intended to frighten, embarrass, harass or otherwise target another minor. Cyber bullying is disturbingly common among Canadian teens. Cyber-Bullying: Kids’ New Reality is a survey that was conducted from December 2006 – January 2007 by the members of Kids Help Phone that had over 2500 respondents. More than 70 per cent of respondents to the survey reported that they have been bullied online, while 44 per cent said they have bullied someone online. At least 38 percent reported having experienced cyber-bullying within the last three months. Of the methods used, 77 percent reported being bullied by instant messaging, 37 per cent by e-mail and 31 per cent on social networking sites, such as MySpace and Facebook. When bullied online, 43 per cent said they did nothing, 32 per cent confronted the person who bullied them, and 27 per cent told a friend. Although most cyber bullying cases go unreported, police departments take action in trying to prevent it. Because many people are afraid to come to the police about an online problem, the police go to great lengths to find the problems themselves online. A large number of youth and their parents think that cyber bullying is not a big enough deal to cause problems. However, it has been proven that a victim of this type of bullying can be lead to serious disorders for the future including suicide. When one becomes a victim of cyber bullying, they are a victim for life. Though the bullying itself may go away, the fear, the hurt, and the memories scar the victim forever.

It's a horrible feeling being bullied. If you don't want this to happen to you, don't do it to others! It's as simple as that. Just a couple of mean things said, can make someone dangerously depressed. Think about what you say before you say something! And remember, a little bit of kindness can go a long way.

1 in 7 Billion

“But we don't take up as much space as you'd think.
Standing shoulder to shoulder all 7 billion of us would fill the city of Los Angeles.
So it's not space we need – it's balance.”

This quote makes me think of a lot of different things.  People could live in smaller houses.  People think that they need more space than they do.  For example. Gene Simmons lives in a HUGE mansion with only 3 other people - who needs that much space?

Also we need to think about how many malls (stuff) people really need - 1 mall per city should be enough.  It should have to do with the population in that city.

We could also fix up old buildings so that they can be put to good use.  Older buildings should be turned into apartment buildings for people who can't afford to own their own home.

Everyone  needs to pick up after themselves, not to litter.  If we pitch in and help make our cities cleaner it will make everyone healthier.

I would feel dirty and disgusting if I was one of those people who didn't have access to clean drinking water or adequate sanitation.  You need clean water to live, everyone should have that right.  I would be frustrated and angry if I didn't have access to clean drinking water.  It wouldn't be fair.

I watched video which showed the most typical human on earth.  I was surprised that it was a 28 asian man.  I thought that it was going to be a female who had a cell phone and a car and didn't drive a bike around.

Behind My Name Ambur.

Behind My Name: Ambur

Before I started this assignment, I thought my name was simple and spelled uniquely, because it was spelled with a "u" instead of an "e" like Amber.

My parents had a really hard time deciding on what to name me.  For the first month of my life they called me "Baby Girl".  Finally, after a month they chose Ambur. I think my parents chose this name for me because it was easy for my uncle to say and it wasn't too hard to remember, they just liked the name for me.
After searching for the meaning of my name here, I learned that my name is often known as a gem or mineral.  Some other interesting things I learned are that my name is typically used as a boys name and Ambur is an old English name.  I also learned that the name of Ambur indicates someone who is a diligent and persevering worker who enjoys a routine occupation where you can do a job well and finish what you start - that's me!  I also learned that people who are named Ambur like to work at their own speed, without pressure, as they prefer to take your time to work step by step in their own way.

I think my name does suits me because I am a hard worker and I like to work at my own speed.  I hate it when people try to rush me.  I do things my own way.

If I could give myself a new name, it would be Tia because I think that it would go well with my middle and last name "Tia Meria Henry-Murphy".  My mom was going to name me Tia Meria, but she thought that it sounded too much like a drink - before it was a drink.
